I worked in the Structural Engineering field for 10 years in my native country of Yugoslavia, and 15 years here in the USA, before I decided to become an artist. This decision did not come lightly, but winning the First Place People’s Choice Award, in a prestigious gallery, while showing my first ever drawing “Pluto Abduction Persephone”, and the subsequent sale of it upon the show opening, made the choice easier.
The “Nudes on Parade” show in Bellingham, WA, 2008, was the first art exhibition that I participated in, and was my first entry into the Bellingham art scene. Receiving the Fourth Place People’s Choice Award for my second painting at the show, “The Naked Eye”, was all the confirmation I needed in order to realize that my work had touched people’s hearts. Receiving 2 awards at the same show gave me the courage to pursue art as my new career.
Both of my paintings at the “Art by the Lake” show in Bellingham, WA received awards. My painting, “Ebb and Flow”, was voted the Best at the Show in the Pastel medium category by the Pacific Marine Gallery staff.
My second painting in the “Art by the Lake” show in Bellingham, WA, 2009, “Moonlight Blues”, was voted the Best in the Show by the visitors. This painting also received Second Place in Oil &Acrylic medium category by the judge’s panel.
Allied Arts in Bellingham, WA, have been organizing yearly exhibits presenting the artistic creations of its members. My painting, “Mending II”, one of three in a series, received the First Place People’s Choice Award during the show in 2010.
This was a fun show, presenting my painting to a really wide range of visitors at the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden, WA. The painting, “Miracle III”, one of five in series was voted the Second Place People’s Choice Award.
What an honor for me when the panel of judges for the “Reaching for the Light” – Breast Cancer Show, recognized the beauty and the archetypal symbols in my painting “Dream”, and used it as the basis for the show’s poster.
